As the temperatures drop and winter sets in, it's tempting to think that there's little you can do to control the pests in your home. This is a huge mistake: pests can still be hugely active in the winter months, trying to wait out the cold months until they can get active again in the warmer spring and summer months.
In fact, there's a strong chance that certain pests, such as mice and rats, will actually start flooding your house during the cold winter months. They are attracted to the heat of your home and are clever enough to find ways inside. And once there, they'll be so comfortable, they might never leave.
So what can you do to stop them on your own? Sadly, very little. Mouse traps won't do much to catch the huge rodent invasion you may get in the winter. You'll probably get a handful of mice, but nowhere near enough. And once they're inside, they will start breeding, creating even more critters to kill.
Some people will seal up all their food in plastic containers and simply repair the damage rodent teeth cause to their home. This is like putting a bandage on a slit wrist: it may fix a few minor problems, but ignores the major issue.
Instead, you need to hire a professional pest control expert. They will come into your home, diagnose the problem, and find ways to get them out of your house for good. They will understand the ways that winter pests can settle down for the winter. And they'll do everything in their power to make sure they don't move in for good.
